From my first interaction with Brianna + Ty, I knew I was going to LOVE these two people. Brianna had reached out to me after her previous photographer had ghosted her, which was unfortunate for them, but very fortunate for me as their wedding is my Roman Empire and one that I will remember for a long time. Let me tell you about a rainy morning, that turns to a sunny afternoon leading to the BEST reception!
Since Brianna + Ty had already had engagement photos done (and the package they chose had a complimentary engagement session added on) they opted for rehearsal dinner coverage instead. Let me tell you, A SAILBOAT rehearsal dinner was a dream come true, and at golden hour! It seriously was the best time, and since I had joined them on their night, I got to get to know them and all their friends! Everyone was so welcoming and kind, and that eased any anxiety I may have had. Rachel (my second shooter and BEST photog friend) also joined us and together we laughed with the couple, and even got teary eyed as Brianna + Ty swapped vows then and there. Once the night fell, and the sailboat ride came to an end, we said our goodnights and "see ya in the morning" and headed our separate ways.
The morning of their wedding, Rachel headed over to where the guys were getting ready, and I headed over to the most charming Airbnb where the ladies were getting ready. When I walked in the bridesmaids were putting bouquets together and eating fruits, and other breakfast items. I started with Brianna's details (as I do every wedding I shoot). Brianna (God love her) was still trying to decide which dress she wanted to wear as she had purchased multiple. Brianna's details were so lovely. She had these earrings that were a stunning green color and a necklace to match. They went really well with her shoes that also had hints of green in them. One of the dresses she decided to wear (she was going to wear at least two, one for the ceremony, and another for the reception), was an anthropology dress with 3D flowers all over it, and it was GORGEOUS! We finished the morning capturing the ladies getting ready, sharing stories and drinking mimosas.
Once the party bus arrived to pick us up to bring us to the first look location, we tried to hide Brianna from Ty as she did not want to be seen yet. Once we got to the first look location, which was a lighthouse, right on the water. Brianna + Ty shared a beautiful first look and got to walk to the lighthouse for some solo photos. While the couple was taking their portraits, their friends hyped them up from afar and it was so fun! Once we were finished, we took some bridal party photos and I got to see their bubbly personalities arise! Jokes were made, fun was had and before we knew it, it was time to head to "Three of Strong Spirits" for their ceremony! "Three of Strong Spirits" is a bar in downtown Portland that has amazing drinks and even better service.
Before their ceremony, we all went in one of the backrooms of the bar, (where photo props were for the photo booth) and watched a video one of the family members had put together of memories of the two. Tears were shed, and hugs were embraced, the room was filled with so much love. Some of the groomsmen were playing with the props which I thought was hilarious! Another cool detail Brianna had come up with, was adding photos of their cats on the drinks (see photo below), which was so cute! It was a great way to include their fur babies without actually having them there.
After the video was done, it was time for the ceremony. Their friends + family gathered for the coolest ceremony, and the sweetest part was seeing Brianna's brothers' reaction to her walking down the aisle. Brianna's mom even got to say a few words for their ceremony, and it was so sweet! The ceremony was held outside in the bars parking lot but it's not what your picturing, Brianna so creatively put rugs out and made an arch and turned a parking lot into something great!
Once the ceremony was finished, the couple mingled, grabbed some drinks then headed to ax throw! Brianna + Ty hired a traveling Ax throwing company (On the Go Ax Throwing) to accompany them for the night! Everyone had a great time, and this was so unique to me! So creative as some people would rather not dance and would rather hangout! After they were done, everyone got to enjoy their food trucks they had! The first food truck was a taco truck (which was DELICIOUS, I may have had a taco or two!) named Iron Clad Eats. The other was a pizza truck which again was amazing called Cargo Pizza Truck! Not to mention the night also ended with an ice cream truck!
Once the night was coming to an end, their friends and family danced the night away, sharing laughs, and enjoying the photo booth. When it came time for speeches, Brianna + Ty sat at the bar while everyone gathered around to hear the most heartfelt speeches I have ever heard. Then the dancing really took off. One of the funniest parts of the reception was when one of Ty's friends got on his back and they played chicken with his other friends! They ended up colliding and everyone rolled over laughing! The couple even choreographed their first dance which shocked everyone, it was great! These two definitely knew how to throw a party, that's for sure! The DJ they had hired for the night played some great songs, and really knew how to get everyone out there dancing, even Brianna + Ty's officiants danced!!
All in all, Brianna + Ty (and their friends + family) are all great. Weddings like this one make me fall even more in love with my job. People like them are why I started my business in the first place. One year later they booked another session with me, and I feel like we will be friends for a while! I am forever grateful for that day Brianna reached out!
