Some weddings just feel like New England — the crisp air, the rich fall colors, the mix of tradition and personality, and that sense of home, even if you're miles away from it. Lydia and Kyle brought all of that and more to their Maine wedding, and it was such an honor to document every single moment.
Although they’re originally not from Maine in live in MA, they knew they wanted their wedding to take place in Maine — a place that holds the natural beauty, charm, and down-to-earth energy they were dreaming of. From the start, they were drawn to the idea of an outdoor ceremony, a cozy barn reception, and a celebration that truly felt like them. And they nailed it.
From Hometown Vibes to a Maine Wedding
Our journey together began with their engagement session in their hometown. We wandered around the city they love, explored meaningful spots, and even got to meet their sweet pup Harry — who completely stole the show. That session set the tone for everything to come. We clicked right away, and I remember leaving that day knowing, these are my people.
They’re easy to be around. The kind of couple that makes you feel like an old friend almost instantly. That connection made their wedding day even more special to photograph — because I wasn’t just documenting strangers, I was capturing people I genuinely cared about.
The Wedding Day: A Cool Fall Backdrop
Lydia and Kyle’s wedding day was the essence of fall in New England. It started off with bright sunshine and crisp air — that kind of morning where everything feels fresh and full of promise. The ceremony took place outside by a peaceful pond, framed by warm autumn tones. Later in the evening, the clouds rolled in, adding a bit of moodiness to the portraits and cozying up the vibe inside the barn. It felt cinematic — in the best way.
Getting Ready: Thoughtful, Beautiful Details
Lydia got ready in a charming townhouse surrounded by her closest friends, who wore mismatched bridesmaid dresses in different colors (a personal favorite of mine — it adds so much personality and visual depth to photos!). There was laughter, music, and that excited buzz that fills the room before the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Kyle was getting ready with his groomsmen in the barn’s lounge area — a space that felt relaxed and perfect for hanging out. The energy on both sides was calm, joyful, and so full of anticipation.
A Pondside Ceremony & Stormy Skies
The ceremony by the pond was nothing short of magical. Lydia and Kyle exchanged vows surrounded by tall trees and cool air, their guests bundled up in light layers and big smiles. It felt like stepping into a postcard version of fall in Maine.
Afterward, we moved quickly into family formals and couple portraits — the clouds were rolling in fast, casting a soft, moody light that I absolutely loved. It gave the images so much richness and intimacy. Lydia and Kyle were total troopers, soaking in the time together, holding onto every moment before heading back to the celebration.
Heartfelt Speeches, Irish Jigs, and Dance Floor Magic
The reception inside the barn was warm, lively, and filled with emotion. They shared beautiful first dances — one with each other, and heartfelt ones with their parents. The speeches were meaningful and personal, a testament to how deeply loved and supported they are by their people.
And then... the party started. Lydia brought the house down with an Irish jig (yes, seriously), and the dance floor never let up after that. Their guests were ready to celebrate, and the energy was unreal. From packed group dances to wild spins and full-out laughter, it made for some of my favorite reception photos of the season.
Final Thoughts
Lydia and Kyle, thank you for bringing me along for the ride — from your hometown session with Harry to your unforgettable fall wedding in Maine. Your day was the perfect mix of timeless and true-to-you. From the Irish dancing to the quiet moments by the pond, it was clear that your wedding wasn’t just about pretty things — it was about connection, love, and joy.
I’m so grateful I got to be there for it all.
